Telkomsel Competes with XL, Now Offers BlackBerry Data Roaming Service

We reported on Indonesian telco XL Axiata launching its BlackBerry data roaming service a few days back. Now Telkomsel, one of its biggest rivals is jumping in with a competitive plan as well, providing BlackBerry flat data roaming service to its customers.

Telkomsel has already established cooperation with 54 roaming partners in 38 countries, including ASEAN countries, U.S., Britain, Russia, Kuwait, India, Saudi Arabia, Japan, China, South Africa, and many others.

The charges for this service are relatively cheap, at U.S. $ 6 per day for promotion until the end of May 2011. Telkomsel also provides an unlimited data roaming package at $ 11 per day, a three-day package for $30, or a five-day package for $45. Various features of the BlackBerry (depending on the package you choose) can be enjoyed in other countries after customer registration.

Consumers win

Competition between telecommunication companies in Indonesia would lead to better deals for Blackberry customers. Each telco has its own advantages, though plans from both Telkomsel and XL are priced at $6 per day. The demand for data services in Indonesia is moving forward, judging from the increasing number of smartphones and mobile Internet usage. As telecommunication companies compete for the same customer base, hopefully we’ll continue to see attractive packages offered to the public.
