Singapore-based medical technology startup, MyDoc, is working with the Health Promotion Board to launch a campaign targeted at SMEs later this year. The campaign’s goal? To encourage employees of SMEs to be more engaged with their own health via MyDoc’s services—their digital health mobile application and web platform.

SMEs who sign up for the SME Workplace Health Package will receive health screening for their employees as well as other programs provided by MyDoc at heavily subsidised rates.

Addressing “chronic under treatment”

“One of the problems we’re tackling is chronic under treatment, especially for patients with chronic diseases such as diabetes or high cholesterol,” said Dr. Snehal Patel, cofounder and CEO of MyDoc.

“People know that they have these conditions, but they tend to ignore it,” he says. “For them, going to the clinic is a hassle and [their illness] might not be a big enough issue for them to go and see a doctor. In the end, it gets worse and they end up in a bad situation.”

What is MyDoc?

MyDoc is a digital health mobile application and web platform with a network of healthcare-related services. It gathers different functions of a hospital or clinic setting and puts them into one platform to provide easy access for thousands of users across Singapore, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka.

Users can seek consultation from professional doctors via video calls or text, all within the comfort of their own homes. Doctors can then diagnose their patients through the platform and even send them prescriptions. Patients can then collect their medication from pharmacies like Guardian, which the startup has partnered with.

Through MyDoc’s services, patients only need to go down to clinics for face-to-face consultations when the doctors deems it necessary. This allows patients, who are busy with work, to lessen their clinic visits while still remaining healthy.

MyDoc is the only service to connect patients to their entire care coordination network.

MyDoc works with medical professionals from established partners such as Parkway Health and Guardian, and has had previous experience working with corporate partners.

According to Chen Terng Shing, vice president of marketing at MyDoc: “While there are other telehealth brands across Asia, MyDoc is the only service to connect patients to their entire care coordination network.”

Other telehealth startups in Singapore include myHealth Sentinel (mHS) as well as RingMD. The former specializes in healthcare connectivity solutions, connecting clinicians, patients, and IT systems with patient data. The latter uses its mobile application and web platform to allow users to seek consultation with doctors via video-conferencing.

The future of MyDoc

MyDoc is a rising name in Singapore’s medical technology sector, a sector which has contributed about US$3.1 billion to the country’s economy in 2011. According to The Straits Times, the startup has also secured US$2.1 million in funding from investors such as Spring Singapore.

MyDoc’s last announced funding was in 2014, an undisclosed amount from venture capital fund, August Capital Partners, Spring Seeds Capital, and several angel investors.
