Who hates watching a video on YouTube with huge black bars on the side? Everyone, right? I know it is much more convenient to hold a smart phone vertically while filming or taking pictures. So instead of trying to change consumer behavior, why not just adapt to it.
I am calling on all smartphone makers to just turn the camera lens 90 degrees on their phones, so that holding the phone naturally in a vertical orientation will produce landscape shots. For video and photo purist who want to see the screen sideways in full landscape, get a real camera. You shouldn’t be making videos on a smartphone anyway.
I am calling on the next Jony Ive to make this simple design change, and rid the world of Vertical Videos!
