China’s tech investments reach record $36b in 2015

China’s tech investments reached a new height in 2015, with disclosed deals worth US$35.96 billion during the course of the year. That’s up 217 percent from the 2014 figure of US$11.33 billion, according to data from the Tech in Asia database.
China hit US$36 billion while India racked up US$7.7 billion.
The 2015 funding tally in China has risen 40-fold from 2010, when the sum was below a billion – just US$887.7 million.
In comparison, fast-growing India’s total disclosed tech investments in 2015 hit US$7.7 billion. That rocketed up from just over US$1 billion in 2013.
In China, 2013 to 2014 saw a greater jump than the previous year’s – there was a near 300 percent growth in funding occurred between those years. Here’s the scene in China in the past five years:

Series A rounds in China were worth a total of US$6.06 billion, while seed stage backing amounted to US$935 million.

It was in series B rounds that most of the money was thrown by venture capital firms and tech giant as they backed high-growth startups. Series B investments in our database totalled US$6.36 billion.
