6 Must-Read Tech Stories in China This Week

China-this-week

This week was dominated by a loss, with the too-young death of Apple co-founder and CEO, Steve Jobs. Even though it happened thousands of miles away, Chinese netizens mourned the loss of the kind of icon of innovation that their nation lacks.

Chinese news was thin on the ground, however, as much of the country kicked back for a week-long holiday. Thankfully, there was plenty of Apple and Alibaba news out of America, and a surprise from Baidu out of Singapore…

“The weird thing about influence is that you can get so affected and inspired even when you don’t get to see that person face-to-face…”

2. At Beijing’s Apple Store, Flowers for Steve Jobs [VIDEO]

On Thursday morning, Penn-Olson went down to Beijing’s Apple Store to see how Chinese Apple fans were responding to the news of Jobs’s death, and to interview some of the grieving Jobs fans.

3. Xiaomi, Makers of Chinese iPhone Clone, Mock Steve Jobs’s Death on Weibo

4. Baidu International Launches, Aimed at Global Brands

Baidu, in partnership with Singapore-based China Search International, launched Baidu International, which it touts as a service “to help advertisers globally launch, manage and optimize on Baidu.”

5. Five Reasons Chinese Consumers Should Avoid the iPhone 4S

It was meant with a muted response, being an evolution – rather than a revolution – from the current device. So we suggested five reasons why Chinese consumers might be better of skipping it.

6. Jack Ma Wants to Buy Yahoo, Everyone Else Not So Sure
