Superstars love startups. Here’s Leonardo DiCaprio’s investment portfolio

As Leo – yes, he of the boyish looks and dazzling Hollywood portfolio – finally basks in the glory of an Oscar, we think it’s a good time to look into his goodie bag. And dig out some startups close to his heart.

In the last eight years, Leonardo DiCaprio has majorly invested in at least six tech firms, according to Bangalore-based data analytics firm Tracxn. His picks show that he puts his money where his mouth his.

At the 88th Academy Awards yesterday, he spoke of the clear and present danger of climate change. Sure enough, one of his earliest investments was in Rubicon Global, a waste and recycle management services firm. Another such startup is Fisker AutoMotive, an electric car maker.

In India too, many movie and sports superstars are keeping an eye out for startups.

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh set up VC firm YouWeCan Ventures to back startups. He has invested in beauty and wellness app Vyomo, on-demand booking platform for mini trucks Moovo, and marketplace for private jets JetSetGo.

Bollywood heartthrob Hritik Roshan has a partnership with online fashion portal Myntra while mega star Amitabh Bachchan has put his money in Singapore-based cloud storage startup Ziddu.

Shah Rukh Khan has invested in a local franchisee of indoor theme park KidZania and Salman Khan is said to own a small stake in travel search engine Yatra.

They can probably take a few pointers from Leo’s startup portfolio.

Startups don't cease to amaze me! I love reading literary fiction, traveling, eating out, and digging into Indian crafts. Can't do without my family!
