Learn how to solve infrastructure bottlenecks in Southeast Asia from aCommerce (#StartupAsia preview)

aCommerce

The emerging markets of Southeast Asia spell a big opportunity for startups, but they’re also riddled with challenges, from low credit card penetration to a yet-to-mature ecosystem. That’s why a lesson from one of the region’s trailblazers, Thailand-headquartered ecommerce service provider aCommerce, on how to tackle these issues and surge ahead is important.

A year after it launched in Thailand, aCommerce closed a series A venture capital funding round of US$10.7 million in June this year. It was the largest series A for a Thailand startup and one of the largest in Southeast Asia to date.

This startup solves three bottlenecks stifling ecommerce in the developing markets of Southeast Asia: logistics, backend fulfillment, and last-mile delivery. It offers an end-to-end solution for merchants who want to bring their products online. Besides building a website for brands and retailers, it helps them with the entire supply chain, from managing the merchants’ orders to delivering them to customers. It also helps brands bring their products to new-age channels such as mobile messaging apps, daily deals sites, and other ecommerce marketplaces. For example, in Thailand, it conducted online flash sales for beauty brand Maybelline through messaging app Line.

Its largest markets currently are Thailand and Indonesia. It started operations in the Phillipines and Singapore early this year, but is currently downsizing in Singapore’s saturated market. The plan is to tackle Malaysia and Vietnam next.
