Starhub follows Singtel and M1 in the scramble to undercut MyRepublic’s cheap data plans

I mean really, who didn’t see this coming? Startup broadband provider MyRepublic rocked the boat something fierce yesterday when it promised to introduce a super cheap data plan (2GB for S$8, or US$5.80, per month) and an unlimited data plan for S$80 (US$58) per month. That’s if it is successful in its bid to become Singapore’s fourth telco.

As a result, the three current Singaporean telcos scrambled to introduce lower mobile data charges. Starhub is the latest one to the party, introducing a data upsize add-on similar to the ones Singtel and M1 announced yesterday and this morning.

Starhub’s version promises an extra 3GB for S$3 (US$2.20). The add-on is available to customers who sign up for or renew their contract on one of the telco’s 4G plans, but the S$3 fee is only available to those who do so by April 1. After that, the add-on’s price will jump to S$6 (US$4.35).

So here’s what the cheapest option by each telco looks like so far. Keep in mind all options except MyRepublic’s also include outgoing call time, SMS, and other features. In addition, MyRepublic’s option remains a proposed plan, without much information on how it will work in practice.
