The program, which was scheduled to begin on February 3, is in partnership with Enterprise Singapore, Singapore Airlines, SIA Engineering Company, SATS, AIRLab, and Panasonic Avionics. It aims to strengthen the capabilities of aviation startups while providing them with access to a global network of experts and leaders in the industry.

Companies that were accepted into the first cohort include those that are innovating safe aircraft towing, augmented reality and virtual reality for training engineers, and indoor tracking of assets.

Starburst, which claims to be the “first and only” global aerospace and defense accelerator, connects startups with the aerospace industry and the government and also provides strategic innovation and growth consulting. It has offices in Los Angeles, Paris, Munich, London, Seoul, Singapore, and Tel Aviv.

The Singapore aviation accelerator is the firm’s latest investment in its global expansion plans. The expansion aims to foster innovation in the air transport industry through the facilitation of corporate partnerships with global and Asia-based startups, the firm said in a statement.

“Given the unprecedented unpredictability of the Covid-19 pandemic, corporations within the air transport sector are eager to adopt innovative solutions by working with startups to eliminate uncertainty,” it added.
