Game lovers in Indonesia got excited when famous video game publisher Square Enix gave a guest lecture in Bandung yesterday. Organized by the Institut Teknologi Bandung’s department of visual communication, the lecture focused on the new Mobile Game Ideas competition that’s being run by MIKTI (Indonesia Digital Creative Industries Society) and Square Enix.
The guest lecture was presented by Takashi Tokita, the producer of several of Square Enix’s flagship Final Fantasy titles. Tokita explained that the current trend in gaming is a move into mobile games on smartphones. He added:
Although currently console games and games on social networks are still popular, mobile gaming and web-browser gaming on smartphones will grow. Developers also will eventually follow this trend.
For this reason MIKTI and Square Enix started the Mobile Game Ideas competition, which Indonesian game enthusiasts are following closely. All game developers have until the 18th of September to submit their work. Judging will be continued in Tokyo to select the 10 best games and game ideas, which will then be presented at the Indonesian ICT Awards (INAICTA) in October.
