SoftBank Corp, the wireless carrier arm spun out of SoftBank Group, has joined forces with US-based Nvidia to develop a platform for generative AI and 5G/6G apps.
With plans to deploy this platform in new AI data centers across Japan, SoftBank aims to enhance cost efficiency and energy usage, it said in a statement on Monday.
The firm is looking to create a network of interconnected data centers that can host a range of generative AI apps, optimizing the radio access network and reducing energy consumption.
SoftBank is also exploring the potential of 5G/6G apps in areas such as autonomous driving, AI factories, and augmented and virtual reality.
Recently, Nvidia’s share price surged by 25%, leading to a market valuation of over US$940 billion, as it predicted a surge in demand for computer chips used in AI, The Guardian reported.
