World’s Second Jelly Bean Tablet Launched in India, and It’s Cheap!

Indian company Karbonn Mobiles released the world’s second Android “Jelly Bean”-equipped tablet a couple of days ago, the Smart Tab 1. The launch was done in conjunction with MIPS Technologies which makes the tablet’s processor. Available in India, it is priced very low at just around $125. That’s cheaper than the world’s first Jelly Bean tablet, the Google/Asus Nexus 7, which starts at $199.

The 7-inch screen tablet supports 3G through a USB dongle, and its makers say it has a 3D G-sensor to enhance users’ gaming experience. The Smart Tab runs on a 1.2GHz MIPS processor and it has expandable memory via microSD cards of up to 32GB. The tablet supposedly runs as long as seven hours when web-surfing.

Smart Tab’s cheaper price means that it needs to deal with an inferiority complex when compared to Nexus 7. For example, the Nexus 7 is the resounding victor with its higher screen resolution, longer battery life, and with a quad-core Tegra 3 processor.

Smart Tab is an interesting tablet alternative for India though, as it is not only more affordable, but it is also the first Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) tablet available in India, as the Nexus 7 doesn’t arrive there until October.

Karbonn Mobiles aims to sell 200,000 tablets per month. The company also said that over-the-air updates to the earlier Smart Tab version to Android 4.1 will be delivered, but did not specify an exact time. [Source: PC World; picture: Geeksip.com]
