NTT Docomo Establishes Singaporean Subsidiary, Supports Japanese Abroad

Japan’s leading telephone carrier NTT Docomo (NYSE:DCM) today announced that it will be establishing a subsidiary in Singapore that will provide services to Japanese customers and businesses in the country and act as a sales agent for mobile operator StarHub. Docomo had a representative office in Singapore since 2005, and this subsidiary will assume the business of that office.

The new services will begin on January 1, 2013, and will include Japanese-language support, as well as support for the purchase of mobile phones, cable TV, and broadband internet. There will also be services like consultation on billing plans and international roaming.

Docomo tells us that the establishment of this subsidiary is not directly connected to the influx of Japanese businesses setting up shop in Singapore these days. But certainly many of the Japanese citizens and companies based in the garden city will be happy to take advantage of the services that Docomo Singapore plans to offer.

On a related note, we saw Docomo establish another pan-Asian initiative a few months back as well, when the company partnered with KT Corporation to allow smartphones from Japan to use pre-payment services in South Korea.
