Singapore commits $130m more to AI research
“Singapore will set aside an additional S$180 million (US$133.3 million) on top of the US$370.2 million committed for artificial intelligence research,” The Business Times reported citing Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat.
Details:
- At this year’s Singapore Fintech Festival x Singapore Week of Innovation and Technology, Heng said that the new funding will focus on fundamental AI (new applications of AI) and translational AI (turning data into insight) technology.
- He also unveiled national AI programs for finance and government aimed at driving active collaboration between the two sectors.
Dive deeper:
- Heng also launched eGiro, which digitalizes the existing manual application process for Giro. In a separate release, The Association of Banks in Singapore said that eGiro will initially be supported by eight major banks, including Bank of China, DBS, and UOB.
- The developments line up with Singapore’s National Artificial Intelligence Strategy, which sees the city-state becoming a leader in AI solutions in key sectors by 2030.
