Indonesian portable wifi rental service Passpod expands to the Philippines

Passpod, a company that rents out portable wi-fi devices to Indonesians traveling overseas (among other services), is expanding to the Philippines. It has signed a memorandum of understanding with Weepay Payment Processing Corp., a Philippine payment service provider, to establish a joint venture.

Using the Passpod brand, the joint venture will target the Philippines’ outbound traveler market, which “continues to experience significant growth year after year,” Passpod CEO Hiro Wardhana said. It is expected to begin operations from the end of May 2019.

Passpod aims to achieve US$3.7 million in revenue from this expansion. The company had gone public last year, raising US$35 million – more than 10 times its initial target – from its IPO.

At present, around 3.4 million overseas trips are made from the Philippines, with the number expected to reach 4.3 million by 2021.
