Axie Infinity’s VP for games to step down

Philip La, the vice president for product and games at Sky Mavis, will be stepping down at the end of this week.

The exec announced the move on LinkedIn, saying it was time to “move on to the next chapter in my career.” He added that he’ll be taking some time off before he starts on his new venture.

La served at the Vietnamese firm for a year and a half, helping the company launch new games in the Axie Infinity franchise. He also helped roll out the company’s Builders Program, which supports community developers with grants.

Before Sky Mavis, La served as senior product manager for Pokemon Go at Niantic and as product manager for growth at Canadian healthtech startup Figure 1. He also previously held roles at Facebook, Microsoft, and Kobo.

La’s decision to step down follows a relatively quiet start to the year for the Axie Infinity developer. After making headline after headline in 2021, Sky Mavis now feels it’s like an “underdog again,” co-founder and COO Aleksander Larsen previously told Tech in Asia.
