Seven bizarre Japanese games for iOS

Let’s face it, a lot of weird stuff comes out of Japan. Some of it good, some awful, but almost all of it is just hilarious. These bizarre games may not always turn out to be the most fun out there, but they are sure to bring out a WTF or two.

Cat&Line

The first absurd game on our list is Cat&Line which has you drawing a path with your finger in order to keep your cat out of harm’s way. Not all that strange, but as you get potions and change your path’s shape, the game gets more and more absurd. If the randomness wasn’t enough, the song will surely get you questioning the sanity of whoever made it. Just watch.

Douzo Douzo

Douzo Douzo is a game we reviewed not too long ago, and although it is not the most fun game in the world it surely belongs on this list. The game sticks you in fifteen different awkward situations where you try to be the second to last person to volunteer. The closer you are to last the more points you rack up. However, if you are the last to volunteer, you lose. Its lack of color, the creepy voice, the awkward situations, and even the premise combine to make one absurd game.

Dorodango

You don’t get much weirder than Dorodango. This game has you rolling a ball of mud in your hand with the object of making the biggest and happiest dorodango, or mud ball. Sound strange? Well it only gets stranger. Once your time with the mud ball is up, you examine it and then karate chop the ball into pieces. You then are rewarded with a little prize, usually a sticker. Dorodango may not be any fun to play, but it sure is weird.

Rice Cake Crash

Rice Cake Crash is the newest game on this list, and quite possibly one of the most bizarre. This game celebrates the Japanese custom of giving three rice cakes stacked on top of each other to celebrate the new year. However in this game you need to take your stack of twenty or so rice cakes and get it down to only three before you can give it away. How, you ask? By smacking the bottom cake with a hammer of course. You have to keep banging away at the bottom cakes until you have just three left, but you have to be careful that the cakes don’t topple over.

Nyan Cat Daibousou

A lot of people are familiar with the tower defense game Battle Cats but may have missed its sister game Nyan Cat Daiboso or what I’ll call Nyan Cat Runner. This game has you taking this awkwardly drawn cat, running on rooftops and swatting anything and everything in your way with your tail. You will even have flying spaghetti monsters and God as depicted by Michelangelo flying at you. Unlike the others, this one is equal parts fun and crazy, and is sure to be a game you won’t tire of easily.
