CJ Looi and Cyril Nie had a childhood love for intricate animations and art in video games. They chased it all the way to reality when they founded PixCap, a web-based 3D design platform, in 2020.
The Singapore firm has just raised US$2.8 million in a seed round led by Sequoia’s Surge, with participation from Cocoon Capital, Entrepreneur First, and angel investor Michael Gryseels.
PixCap’s browser-based editor allows designers to choose from thousands of templates to create 3D designs in minutes.
“As brands shift towards 3D design for app banners, social media ads and landing pages, having easy-to-use 3D design tools at their fingertips will allow designers and marketers to create attractive and engaging visuals to support brand growth,” said Looi, who’s also CEO of PixCap.
The global 3D mapping and modeling market is expected to climb from US$3.8 billion in 2020 to US$7.6 billion by 2025.
The funding will be used to grow PixCap’s engineering and marketing teams and push product development as it looks to expand into global markets.
PixCap has over 30,000 users and operates in more than 60 countries including the US, India, the UK, as well as markets in Southeast Asia.
