Quantum computing has the potential to revolutionize the world of computing. The sector faces two main challenges: developing hardware that can support quantum computation at scale and creating software tools for developers.

Based in Singapore, Horizon Quantum Computing aims to make programming of quantum computers accessible and efficient for conventional computers today.

The company, which has just raised US$18.1 million in new funding, is building a system for quantum software development that enables developers to bridge the gap between classical code and quantum accelerated applications.

Funding details

  • Funding amount: US$18,100,000
  • Other investors: Sequoia Capital, Tencent (腾讯), SGInnovate (Infocomm Investments), Pappas Capital , Expeditions Fund
  • Stage: Series A

With this fresh funding, Horizon will strengthen its science and engineering teams to accelerate product development and bring its tech to the market.

“The new investment will support our effort to break through the barriers to useful quantum computation,” said Joe Fitzsimons, Horizon’s founder and CEO, in a statement.

The company has also just opened an office in Dublin, Ireland – its first outpost in Europe. Ireland will become a new engineering center for Horizon to boost its global operations.
