At the recent Japan Amusement Expo, Sega made a pretty surprising announcement: it is working on a new arcade MOBA game called Wonderland Wars. The game will feature battles of up to 4 vs. 4 players, and be operated via a touchscreen and stylus. Other than that, it sounds pretty much like a regular MOBA game: there are NPCs to deal with (and presumably farm), and the ultimate goal is to destroy the other team’s castle.
The game is reportedly scheduled to begin black-box testing in mid-March, and will hit arcades this fall, although it’s not clear whether the game will be coming anywhere outside of Japan just yet.
Beyond that—and the lovely image of the cabinet and stylus you can see above—we really don’t have a lot of detail yet on Wonderland Wars. It’s certainly an interesting concept; I’m not sure anyone else has tried (or would even think to try) a 4v4 MOBA arcade cabinet with stylus controls. If nothing else Sega gets points for creativity, but how popular this game can get is another question entirely. We’ll be keeping an eye on it and will have more details for you soon.
