In brief: India’s music-streaming giant Gaana expands into video
- Gaana has announced it will introduce videos to its app and offer artists more listener data as it races to attract both users and talent, as well as widen its market dominance, VentureBeat reported.
- The app will feature mobile-optimized vertical videos from India’s top music artists, said Gaana CEO Prashan Agarwal, adding that the videos will be exclusive to the platform.
- The eight-year-old service, owned by conglomerate Times Internet, also revealed it has amassed 100 million monthly active users, up from some 80 million announced in December 2018.
- About 150 million users in India regularly access music-streaming services, according to research firm Counterpoint. Deloitte and recording industry body IMI estimated that the music market in the country generated US$130.7 million in revenue in 2017.
