The Network for Electronic Transfers (NETS) Group, a Singaporean electronic payment service provider, is partnering with Myanmar Payment Union (MPU), the country’s national payment network, to establish a program for developing quick response (QR) payment expertise.

Under the Payment Technology Exchange and Development Program’s first project, NETS will share its operational knowledge of the Singapore Quick Response Central Repository platform with MPU, with the aim to implement a similar platform in Myanmar.
The Singapore Quick Response Code (SGQR) is the world’s first unified payment system for QR codes. It combines different codes such as PayNow and NETS QR into a single QR code.
“Myanmar’s digital payment has gradually developed with the explosive growth of mobile and internet penetration that had a major impact on our financial services sector,” said MPU CEO Zaw Lin Htut.
