PayPal hires Lawrence Chan as VP of Asia Pacific New Ventures and GM of Southeast Asia, India
PayPal has announced today the hiring of Lawrence Chan as the company’s vice president for Asia Pacific New Ventures and general manager for Southeast Asia and India.
Based in Singapore, Lawrence will head the regional business strategy, sales, partnerships, and merchant adoption of PayPal’s payment solutions in the mobile and digital space. He will also lead the expansion of PayPal’s geographical reach.
One of the products he will be pushing is PayPal Here, the company’s mobile credit card reader, now available in Hong Kong, Australia, US, and Canada.
Lawrence has spent over 17 years in the financial services industry. Previously, he worked for American Express International, American International Assurance, Bank of America, and Visa International. At American Express, he was the senior VP and GM of Global Payment Option (Asia, Europe & Africa).
His stints has given him experience in developing new business models and payment products, forming strategic partnerships with banks and payment networks, and engaging with regulators and merchants in the largest commerce markets in the Asia Pacific region, including Australia, China, India and Japan.
At PayPal, he will report to Rohan Mahadevan, PayPal’s vice-president of Asia. Lawrence has replaced Brad Paterson, former regional head of New Ventures, and Elias Ghanem, previous GM for Southeast Asia and India. Elias is now GM of PayPal Middle East and North Africa.
