Amazon acquires Indian retail tech firm Perpule in $14.7m deal
“In a bid to ramp up its play amongst offline retailers, ecommerce giant Amazon has acquired retail tech startup Perpule,” Entrackr reported.
Details:
- Regulatory filings by Perpule show that the acquisition was done through an all-cash deal worth US$14.7 million, said the report.
- Confirming the deal to Entrackr, an Amazon India spokesperson said that Perpule’s cloud-based point-of-sale (POS) offering will help local offline stores better manage daily operations.
Context:
- Amazon’s payment arm Amazon Pay last year launched “Smart Stores,” a feature that allows users to scan QR codes and explore products inside a physical shop.
- According to the report, Perpule’s offering would help drive the adoption of Smart Stores through its POS solution.
