A Japanese developer making its pioneer foray into the crowdfunding space for a video game has been causing many to take notice. This is the very first time a game project from Japan has been submitted to Kickstarter and the role playing game titled Project Phoenix has already quadrupled its pledge goal since starting its funding phase four days ago. The present total amount pledged stands at $478,576, comfortably exceeding the original pledge goal of just $100,000
The game is being developed by Creative Intelligence Arts, a company specializing in video game and anime film scores. To bolster the team, it assembled a star studded cast of talented individuals. These include legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu who scored most of the soundtracks for the Final Fantasy games and game designer Vaughan Smith who crafted the world of Rockstar’s L.A Noire.
According to its Kickstarter page, the game is set in a fantasy backdrop and features a squad-based RTS (real time strategy) system. The primary storyline of the game will drive players to figure out the mystery behind an angel with Amnesia while travelling through the world of Azuregard.

Noble Intentions
While the original pledge goal of $100,000 might seem small and puzzling for a game of such magnitude, it comes with noble intentions as the entire team is not collecting any salary for this. Instead, they have agreed to collect a percentage-based royalty of sales with any extra funding being channeled into hiring extra assistants, recordings, and fulfilling additional stretch goals. With the level of professional magnitude of the team, almost all of them can afford to forego a salary and work on this as an extra pursuit. It could be one of the key reasons fans have responded so positively to this on top of the all-star line-up.
The team said the game will primarily focus around a single player experience for now and will only consider multiplayer development if further pledge goals are reached. Project Phoenix is expected to be released in 2015 on the PC, Mac, and Linux platforms with slightly stripped down versions for the Android and iOS due to hardware limitations. With another 25 days to go before the end of its funding phase, Project Phoenix looks set to end with more than they could have hoped for.
