Report: Singapore govt sets aside $22.7m for electric vehicles
“During his Budget 2021 speech today, deputy prime minister of Singapore Heng Swee Keat announced that S$30 million (US$22.7 million) will be set aside over the next five years for EV-related initiatives,” reported Vulcan Post.
Details:
- The government said it intends to expand the number of electric vehicle charging points to 60,000 from an earlier target of 28,000 by the end of 2030.
- There will also be zero additional registration fee (ARF) charges for electric cars from January 2022 to December 2023.
Context:
- The new initiative comes as part of a broader plan to make it easy to buy and own electric vehicles.
- The reduction in ARF charges is also to narrow the cost difference between electric cars and internal combustion engine cars.
