Razer launches new ultra-thin gaming laptop with super-HD screen

In the market for a new gaming laptop? Have a lot of excess cash lying around you’d like to get rid of? If so, then Razer has just killed two birds with one stone for you, because the company just launched this:

OK, that trailer is a little bit overdramatic. Everything as you know it is not about to change. The sun will continue to rise in the east, water will continue to be wet, and the sky will continue to be blue sometimes.

That said, the new Razer Blade gaming laptop shown above, which is now available via Razer’s site, does look pretty badass. Check the specs:

• Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4702HQ Quad Core Processor with Hyper Threading 2.2GHz / 3.2GHz (Base/Turbo)
• Memory: 8GB onboard memory (DDR3L-1600MHz)
• GPU: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 870M (3GB GDDR5)
• Display: 14.0″ QHD+ 16:9 Ratio, 3200×1800, with LED backlight, capacitive multi-touch

And despite those powerful specs, it weighs just over four pounds and is pretty damn thin. (In fact, Razer calls it the world’s thinnest gaming laptop, although that’s not a claim I’ve attempted to verify).

So that’s the good news. Here’s the bad news: this pretty little puppy does not come cheap, and it’s not available yet in most of Asia. If you’re in Singapore, you can buy it right now, but here’s the price list. All models can be purchased online, though only the 256 GB models will be sold in retail outlets.

• 14″ 128 GB: SG$3,199.90 (about $2,522)
• 14″ 256 GB: SG$3,399.90 (about $2,680)
• 14″ 512 GB: SG$3,799.90 (about $3,000)
• 17″ 128 GB: SG$3,399.90 (about $2,680)
• 17″ 256 GB: SG$3,599.90 (about $2,842)
• 17″ 512 GB: SG$3,999.90 (about $3,158)

And those prices don’t even include shipping! Interestingly, if you want one of these, your best bet might be to try to import one from the United States, where all three models are priced at about $300 cheaper. (For example, in the US the 128 GB model costs $2,199.99, or about SG$2787).

You can see all kinds of details about the new laptops here, and we’ll try to get our hands on a review unit as well, but this thing certainly looks like the one of the best gaming laptops on the market right now.
