Port operator PSA Singapore is a finalist of the inaugural Design AI and Tech Awards, which spotlights innovations by startups, enterprises, and corporations in Singapore.

As one of the world’s busiest and most advanced maritime hubs, Singapore constantly seeks innovative solutions to maintain its competitive edge in global trade.

At the heart of this pursuit is PSA Singapore, whose Intelligent Warehouse eXchange (iWX) platform redefines warehouse logistics for the digital age.

Poor equipment visibility, space congestion, unpredictable trip schedules, and inefficient communication typically disrupt warehouse operations.

This is where iWX comes in. The platform uses AI, real-time data, and predictive analytics to boost efficiency, sustainability, and collaboration.

Bottlenecks uncovered

PSA used a design-thinking approach in developing iWX.

The process involved mapping user pain points and analyzing months of operational data from PSA terminals and Keppel Distripark, as well as from digital platforms like Portnet and SmartBooking.

Along the way, these bottlenecks emerged: inconsistent dwell times, irregular traffic patterns, and inefficient container reuse coordination.

The iWX platform enables PSA to predict when containers will be ready for reuse after unloading its contents. It uses machine-learning models that analyze historical gate-in and gate-out data, container attributes, and transporter details.

When reuse is not feasible, iWX’s optimization engine recommends returning containers to the nearest depot.

The platform uses these AI-powered insights to recommend suitable containers for reuse. This reduces unnecessary transport, trucking distances, and carbon emissions.
