Project Phoenix adds PayPal options and new tier rewards

Project Phoenix is the first Japan-based Kickstarter ever, and boy is it one hell of a project. It started raising funds last year for a squad-based real-time strategy game produced by a whole host of legendary artists, developers, and musicians, and the game is slated for a worldwide release in 2015. If you didn’t get to its Kickstarter in time, or feel like funding it right now, don’t fret. PayPal options have been opened for new pledgers!

According to a press release from Creative Intelligence Arts, the registered company behind the project, the PayPal reward list retains many features from the Kickstarter campaign. Like the Kickstarter, the PayPal reward tiers offer backers physical and digital copies of the game’s soundtrack (composed by Nobuo Uematsu), artbooks, maps of Azuregard, the world the game is set in, and a documentary about the making of the game.

However there are also new in-game items like Death’s Mantle, an accessory for your characters, a shadow phoenix pet, and a shadow phoenix mount.

Project Phoenix director Hiroaki Yura said that the team has already been able to implement challenges like having your party “battle inside a kraken”, and added that additional resources will help them “make the journey through Azuregard a more enriching, engrossing experience.” As for the new rewards?

“…The rewards, particularly the shadow-themed ones, will help us show fans the darker side of Azuregard and give them a taste of what they can look forward to from the game’s story.”

Early pledgers (like me!) who already threw their money at the star studded Project Phoenix team when the Kickstarter launched will be pleased to know that plans are in the works to allow current backers to upgrade their pledges. A storefront is also in the works: it will allow backers to buy additional items like a 1/8 scale figurine of one of the game’s characters and other items still in planning.
