Social networking app WeGoWhere wants people to meet offline

Ty Lertwichaiworawit refers to Facebook and Instagram as mostly “recaps of the past” and WeGoWhere, which she co-founded in 2020, as “a crystal ball into the future.”

“People get to know where their friends will be, and have the opportunity to join their plans before they happen,” Lertwichaiworawit tells Tech in Asia.

WeGoWhere, which started out as a travel app for locals to meet travelers, wants to encourage people to meet offline. The Singapore-based startup says that it can provide more meaningful experiences than what’s already available on leading social media platforms.

For example, other than making it easier for users share plans with friends and discover nearby meetups, the WeGoWhere app can streamline the logistics of organizing in-person gatherings, such as by splitting the bill or sharing high-resolution photos or videos.

The firm has just raised US$1.2 million in a seed round led by 500 Global.

Lertwichaiworawit says the startup has spent “very little” on marketing. In a press statement, WeGoWhere said it has a community of more than 300,000 users in Thailand, and on average, people spend 28 minutes a day on the app.

The new funding will used to boost product innovation, improve user experience, and expand into new markets across Southeast Asia.

“Our vision is to be everyone’s AI-powered relationship assistant simplifying how we meet in real life,” Lertwichaiwora adds.
