Pakistani educational tech startup MySmacEd today announced it has raised an undisclosed amount in seed funding, valuing the company at US$2 million. The round is led by private investor Shafaq Osama – an IT consultant and mentor for several startups.

MySmacEd is a communication platform for schools which enables real time information sharing between parents, teachers, students, and administrators. It creates a moderated social network, enabling better interaction between all stakeholders and helping teachers with different tools and resources. It also gives parents a platform to continually monitor their child’s performance while teachers have better resources to impart knowledge and interact with their students.

“We have a vision of disrupting the education sector by integrating social, mobile, analytics, and cloud technology to develop a smarter education ecosystem,” says Arusha Imtiaz, founder MySmacEd.

The startup has positioned itself as an enterprise B2B solution, and charges clients on a subscription model – with a fixed fee per student. It claims to have 11 schools on board, with four of them based in the Middle East and is in talks with several more.

MySmacEd is currently incubated at Lahore-based Plan9, which Arusha says has been pivotal to their growth and traction so far. “Plan9 played a vital role in bringing us to this point. Our launch would have been delayed by six months at least without the platform they provided,” she tells Tech in Asia.

The startup has a team of nine people. It aims to use the funding to streamline operations and chart a future growth strategy.
