Ex-Facebook engineer’s investment app nets seed funding

Makmur, an Indonesia-based investment app, raised a seven-digit US dollar amount in a seed funding round led by Beenext.

Kinesys Group and Trihill Capital also participated in the round, along with several angel investors such as Quest Ventures partner Yiping Goh, Kopi Kenangan CEO Edward Tirtanata, GajiGesa CEO Vidit Agrawal, and former Gojek executive Andrew Lee.

Launched in 2019, Makmur enables its users to invest in mutual funds, helping them realize their long-term financial goals.

The startup has partnered with 10 investment managers so far, including Avrist Asset Management, BNI Asset Management, and Trimegah Asset Management. In February, Makmur received an official license to operate from the Indonesian Financial Services Authority.

The company was founded by Sander Parawira, a former Facebook engineer who also previously worked as a quantitative strategist at trading firm Virtu Financial.

Makmur plans to use the fresh funds to hire more team members and expand its features and product offerings.
