Path looks to establish a full-time operation in Indonesia, one of its few well-performing markets

Path to get BlackBerry app next year, hopes for boost to 4 million users in Indonesia

Dave Morin’s Path social network appears to be getting more aggressive in Indonesia, one of its few well-performing markets. A recent job posting on Lever reveals as much, as the team now has an opening for a full-time country manager in Indonesia.

The media has not been kind to Path this year. In Fall 2013, Path drew attention from tech industry pundits when it lost several senior executives, fired 20 percent of its staff, and then raised US$25 million in series D funding from Indonesia’s Bakrie Group, which closed the following January. Rumors surfaced earlier this year that Apple would acquire the social network, but neither Path nor the hardware giant commented publicly on them.

Despite its underwhelming performance in the US and globally, Indonesia has remained one of Path’s bright spots. In a February interview with The Jakarta PostMorin described Indonesia as Path’s “breakout star” and claimed to have accumulated 4 million registered users from within the archipelago – marking about one sixth of its total registered user count.
