Our Mobile Planet: New Global Smartphone Usage Insights From Google and Others

our-mobile-planet-logo

Last week Google (NASDAQ:GOOG), Ipsos, and the Mobile Marketing Association announced a very slick website providing the results of their survey into smartphone usage around the world. The information was collected between March and June of this year, and is now available to browse and download at ourmobileplanet.com.

The data focuses on five categories of smartphone usage: penetration, behavior, activities, commerce, and advertising. Readers can also browse according to country as well. And while only a 30 countries appear to be listed, the majority of Asian nations are accounted for. So if you’d like to see the results for your country, do check it out.

Hopefully, the parties involved will try to build on the survey’s sample size moving forward, but the presentation and the openness of the data (it can be exported), and the chart views you create can be linked (see example here).

It’s a modest start, but we’re happy to see more organizations trying to help us understand trends in how we use smartphones, particularly here in Asia.
