OMG denies recruiting Korean players (sort of)

Rumors in the Chinese media have spread to the English-language press, and they’re quite exciting: OMG is recruiting former Jin Air players Miso and Kush, as well as a 16-year old Korean solo queue player. However, OMG has denied these rumors.

In a post on the team’s official microblog account, OMG called the reports that it has recruited any foreign players “rumors”, pointing out that that wouldn’t make any sense to recruit players who don’t speak Chinese into a team that is currently communicating very well and that has retaken its position at the top of the LPL. It encourages readers to rely on the official OMG weibo account for trustworthy information about the team.

That said, the wording of the post is a little vague; it never directly says “we won’t recruit Korean players” or anything like that. Some of the Chinese rumors suggest that negotiations are still in process, with OMG not yet having come to a decision over the recruitment of the players.

It’s therefore possible that some or all of these players could still join “the men in black” at a later date, but the club would likely face significant backlash from its domestic fans, many of whom see the team as a symbol of China’s strength and potential in League of Legends. Many of the comments on the Weibo announcement are OMG fans saying they hope OMG never brings in foreign players, although a few suggest that a foreign coach could be helpful.
