When I turned 18, I drove my mom to the grocery store after three driving classes to show her what I learned from school so far. That was the last time I ever did so, as on the way there, I almost hit another car. Yikes!
That moment was enough to discourage me from ever applying for a professional driver’s license. The entry of ride-hailing apps like Grab in the years that followed reaffirmed that decision.
Today, there are even self-driving cabs available in parts of the US and China. In this week’s Big Story, my colleague Melissa unravels the many factors that could play into the decision of whether Grab would adopt this driverless model sooner or later.
In the next decade, the company may have to start rethinking how it does business as robotaxis become more common worldwide.
