3 Gaming Studios Come Together to Launch a Very Quirky New iOS Game

Three game development studios from three different countries – US-based Gamenauts, Malaysia’s Nerdook Productions, and Indonesia’s Nightspade – have jointly released an iOS game titled Nuclear Outrun today. It’s a remake of a well known Flash-based game of the same title.

Nuclear Outrun’s premise is a very quirky one. There is a nuclear missile from an unknown source heading your way and you need to escape from it. To do that you will be able to use different vehicles and must rescue different sets of characters in the process. I’m not sure why but there will be zombies blocking your way and you can shoot through them with weapons like the shark gun and the fart bazooka. Yep, it is a very quirky game indeed.

The original Flash game has been played more than two million times on the Flash portals. We spoke with Gamenauts’ CEO Stanley Adrianus about the new iOS game. He says that in terms of game content and features, the new mobile game probably has twice of what the original Flash version has. So it’s more accurate to call the new mobile version an enhanced remake rather than just a simple port.

Stanley tells the story of how the mobile game production happened, and what entities are involved. It started with Stanley loving the Flash-based Nuclear Outrun when it was released last year. He says “I love the feel, frantic action, and humor of the game – especially the gun that shoots out sharks as missiles.”

Stanley contacted Nerdook Productions and asked if they were interested to make a mobile game out of it. They were interested but did not have the resources to pull it off, which led Stanley to talk with Nightspade next, and the Indonesian developer agreed to tackle the game porting project.

Besides having Nerdook Productions and Nightspade on board, Stanley then invited US-based art studio Present Creative to help revamp the game’s graphics. Last but not least, he enlisted a rock band called “The Skank Agents” (pictured above) and licensed their music as the game’s soundtrack.

In addition to all that, Gamenauts also co-designed the new game version together with Nerdook Productions. He likes to showcase this project as an example of the type of support Gamenauts can offer game developers.

Nuclear Outrun is part of Gamenauts’ Asian mobile publishing initiative project. Prior to this, Gamenauts has helped publish Indonesian-made iOS game Castle Champions by Artlogic Games. The game was released in March and notched up more than 100,000 users in its first week. Gamenauts also had a great time publishing another Indonesian-made game, Ninja Fishing by Menara Games, which has amassed more than 10 million downloads.
