Nintendo is making its way onto smartphones

Nintendo is about to make a big announcement following its January 30th board meeting on how to save the company. Many have speculated on what the company will end up doing, but Nikkei reports that the game company will start putting its content on smartphones.

What kind of content? Not full-fledged games like many of us had hoped, but rather trailers, mini-games, and short demos for upcoming titles. Nintendo believes that putting these introductions to its games on smartphones can help the company reach a wider audience and spread awareness of the different games available.

The question is, will this really help? I understand how putting mini-games or even brief demos on smartphones could be beneficial for Nintendo. People who do not own a Wii U or 3DS will be able to sample a game and potentially buy it later. This is smart. However, I just can’t imagine being able to play a Wii U game on my iPhone.

I guess we just have to wait and see what Nintendo has in mind, but you can expect that free Nintendo content will probably be available for your smartphone within the year.

What do you think of all this? Will watching trailers or playing mini-games on your smartphone be enough to convince you to buy a Wii U?
