Cricket is more than just a sport for Indians, its our life. This was evident as our World Cup win started trending on Twitter and Facebook. Riding this Cricket World Cup buzz, Nike launched the “Bleed Blue” campaign which we previously wrote about. Now reaching the peak of the campaign, Nike launches its final ad, titled “United By Blue” on YouTube.
The ad celebrates team India’s long-waited victory as it showcases the passion of the country that stands united through cricket. “From the street to the stadium, the nation of blue regain world dominance after 28 years,” reads the description on YouTube. The same ad will be aired on TV networks starting on Wednesday.
“The celebration brought to life in “United By Blue” represents the celebration going on all over India,” said Sanjay Gangopadhyay, Marketing Director at Nike India.
“The entire country is united by blue. This incredible win has only deepened the relationship between the streets and the stadiums. The kids inspire Team India and the national team inspires the kids. It’s been a shared journey, a shared dream. And now it’s a shared victory with ‘Bleed Blue’ now becoming part of the Indian Cricket lexicon.”
Nike made the right bet going with India as the country was eventually crowned the world champion. Its “Bleed Blue” campaign will be deeply embedded within the hearts of many Indian Cricket fans. Nike’s marketing team always manages to do well in mega sports events like the Cricket World Cup. Last year, Nike’s ambush marketing hijacked the Football World Cup to ride on the football craze.
