Gloops, Tokyo Game Show 2012

Japanese mobile game developer Gloops has been acquired by Nexon (TYO:3659) for 36.5 billion yen (or about $469 million).

Social games expert Serkan Toto notes on his blog that it’s clear why Nexon wants Gloops under its umbrella:

Tokyo-based gloops knows how to do social games that work (in Japan, at least), and Nexon is currently in the process of trying to learn.

Nexon is eyeing Japan as “one of [its] most important growth areas,” according to today’s announcement.

Gloops had a pretty large presence at the recent Tokyo Game Show, and was one of the standout mobile social game developers in attendance right along side GREE. It was announced during that event that Gloops would be partnering with DeNA (TYO:2432) to bring games to the US, China, and South Korea.
