X trials free version of Grok AI chatbot with select users
Social network X, which owns the AI chatbot Grok through its subsidiary xAI, is testing a move to offer the chatbot’s services to non-paying users.
Previously, Grok was exclusive to premium subscribers, but it is now being trialed with select free users in regions like New Zealand, according to sources.
To access Grok for free, users need accounts that are at least a week old and linked to a phone number.
The service, launched in August by xAI with the Grok-2 model featuring image generation, now includes image understanding capabilities.
