Musk’s xAI launches API

xAI, a company founded by Elon Musk, has launched an API for its generative AI model Grok.

Pricing is set at US$5 per million input tokens and US$15 per million output tokens.

The API currently offers a single model titled “grok-beta.”

Its documentation mentions additional variants like Grok 2 and Grok mini, but specific version details for “grok-beta” remain unclear.

xAI aims to establish a foothold in the competitive AI sector, trailing behind OpenAI.

Founded last year, xAI has integrated Grok into the X platform, enabling image generation and event summarization.

The firm raised US$6 billion in May, with investments from Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital.
