US Vice President JD Vance expects TikTok sale deal by April
US Vice President JD Vance expects an agreement on TikTok’s sale in the US by Apr. 5. While final paperwork may take longer, he told NBC News that progress is being made toward a “distinct American TikTok enterprise.”
The platform’s future has been uncertain since bipartisan legislation required ByteDance to sell TikTok or face a US ban.
Former President Donald Trump extended the deadline to early April 2025, with negotiations ongoing with four unidentified groups.
ByteDance has not confirmed any sale discussions, but rumors suggest potential buyers, including businessman Reid Rasner, who reportedly submitted offers over US$47 billion.
Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian and businessman Frank McCourt are also rumored bidders.
Vance emphasized the administration’s focus on data privacy and national security, though details of the negotiations remain undisclosed.
