US SEC ends Robinhood crypto probe with no enforcement action
The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has ended its investigation into Robinhood’s cryptocurrency trading operations without taking enforcement action, the company announced on Feb.24.
Robinhood crypto, a subsidiary of the brokerage platform, had previously disputed the SEC’s view that most digital assets qualify as federal securities.
The company noted that its platform did not offer specific products and services that the SEC, under Chair Gary Gensler, had designated as securities in other matters.
Robinhood expressed approval of the investigation’s conclusion.
The SEC’s decision comes amid reports of significant growth in Robinhood’s cryptocurrency operations.
In its earnings report released this February, the company disclosed a 400% year-over-year increase in crypto trading volume, totaling US$70 billion.
