The United Kingdom’s Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) has identified problems in the mobile browser market, which is largely dominated by Apple and Google.

The regulator said that this ecosystem is not functioning effectively for consumers and businesses, following an inquiry by its independent group.

This led to a sector-wide investigation launched in January.

The inquiry mainly focused on Apple’s Safari browser, which accounts for 88% of browsing activity on Apple devices.

Google’s Chrome browser leads Android devices, with a reported 77% usage share in 2024.
