Apple has filed an appeal with the UK Investigatory Powers Tribunal regarding a secret order that demands access to encrypted iCloud files.

This tribunal reviews cases of alleged unlawful intrusion by UK intelligence services and may evaluate the legality of the order.

The order was issued in January 2023 under the Investigatory Powers Act of 2016, targets Apple’s advanced data protection feature with end-to-end encryption. This feature makes the backups inaccessible to third parties, including Apple.

Following the order, Apple suspended the feature in the UK and is now challenging the order to restore its security measures.
