TSMC leads Taiwan patent applications in 2024

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) led Taiwan’s patent filings for the ninth straight year in 2024, with 1,412 invention patent applications.

Nanya Technology ranked second with 466 patents, up 25% from 2023, followed by AUO Corp (425 patents), the Industrial Technology Research Institute (356 patents), and MediaTek (239 patents), which saw a 56% decline.

Among foreign applicants, Applied Materials led with 950 patents, up 29%, while Samsung Electronics followed with 894 patents, down 8%.

Huawei ranked 17th with a record 184 patents, marking a 28% increase from 2023.
