TSMC lowers Q1 outlook due to January earthquake losses

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) expects its first-quarter 2025 revenue to be at the lower end of its forecast due to the financial losses from a January earthquake.

The company, a major supplier for firms such as Apple and Nvidia, estimated losses of NT$5.3 billion (US$161 million) after accounting for insurance claims.

While some semiconductor wafers were damaged, TSMC confirmed there was no structural damage to its facilities, and normal operations have resumed.

The revised forecast suggests Q1 revenue will be closer to the lower end of the anticipated range of US$25 billion to US$25.8 billion.

TSMC is actively working to recover lost production and does not expect changes to its full-year outlook.
