Trump proposes TikTok sale for tariff relief deal
US President Donald Trump suggested a potential deal involving TikTok and US tariffs on Chinese imports.
Speaking aboard Air Force One, Trump said that China might approve the sale of TikTok, owned by ByteDance, in exchange for tariff relief.
TikTok faces a deadline of Apr. 5, to finalize a deal with a non-Chinese buyer to avoid being banned in the US.
Trump noted that his administration is “very close” to reaching an agreement, with several investors reportedly interested.
This follows Trump’s recent announcement of a 10% baseline tariff on all US imports, with Chinese goods currently facing a 54% tariff.
TikTok has not commented on the matter.
