TikTok will shut down its photo-sharing platform, TikTok Notes, on May 8.

The app, which was launched in 2024, was tested in Canada, Australia, and Vietnam.

The company has begun notifying TikTok Notes users about the shutdown. Users are encouraged to save their data and switch to Lemon8, another app owned by the platform’s parent company ByteDance.

Lemon8, which started in Japan in 2020, has expanded to the United States and Southeast Asia and offers similar features such as photo-sharing and creative tools.

In its statement, TikTok mentioned that feedback from TikTok Notes will be used to improve Lemon8.

Although no specific reason was given for the shutdown, TikTok Notes reportedly faced challenges in user adoption.

This prompted ByteDance to focus on Lemon8, which had around 12.5 million monthly active users globally as of December 2024.

As TikTok approaches a US ban deadline on April 5, it continues to promote Lemon8 within its platform.
